Azazel Jacobs’ lo-fi indie comedy unfolds slowly but with patient precision.
Matt Boren is authentically schlubby as Mikey, a new dad who ditches his LA-based wife and daughter to visit his arty NYC parents, concocts ludicrous excuses to stay and regresses into a teen world of toys, comics and general slovenliness.
Jacobs’ own parents play Mikey’s loving but embarrassed oldsters to perfection; he also shoots in their amazing apartment, a cross between womb and rabbit warren.
As a result, the film’s quirks feel lived-in, right up to the subtly layered suggestions of the spot-on final shot.
