Essex pub rockers Dr Feelgood never scaled the heights of the Sex Pistols and The Clash.
But Julien Temple admires them enough to end a trilogy of documentaries about ’70s British music with a clearly affectionate homage to the Canvey Island foursome whose incendiary R&B paved the way for punk.
Archive footage shows the quartet’s reputation as an electric live act to be more than justified, guitarist Wilko Johnson recalling Ian Curtis with his manic stare and jerky movements.
The pay-off comes later, though, Johnson fighting back tears as he sees his image projected on the petrochemical works he grew up beside.
