Pokemon: The Movie 2000

2

In a country where children are mugged for their Pokémon trading cards, it's hard to welcome this follow-up to the Easter smash, even if it is marginally better than its utterly incoherent predecessor.

For, while the bland, homogeneous anime of Pokémon: The First Movie has been spiced up with some digital effects, Pokémon: The Movie 2000 is still little more than one long advert.

We can only pray this infantile craze will be as short-lived as the Care Bears, My Little Pony and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In the meantime, parents will just have to endure this, which consists of a 20-minute curtain raiser (Pikachu's Rescue Adventure) and an 80-minute featurette (The Power Of One). Both are of such mind-rotting banality you'll feel like you've left your brains in the popcorn tub.
