Writer/director and one-to-watch Elliott Goldner’s feature debut is a rare find: a convincing British found-footage horror that actually has some good performances and genuine scares.
Techie Robin Hill (a Ben Wheatley regular) and priest Gordon Kennedy (Little John in TV’s Robin Hood) are posted to deepest darkest Devon to investigate a “miracle” at a rundown rural church, which means capturing everything on camera, however mundane it might seem.
For the most part, it’s the interplay between these two lively, lived-in characters that holds the interest until, after a slow but steady first hour – and a fair few false starts – the last act goes gratifyingly nuts.
