The Grocer's Son

3

A return to the rolling hills of Provence helps one man discover new richness in his life

This French prodigal son tale sees 30-year-old Antoine (Nicolas Cazale) reluctantly returning to Provence to take up his family’s mobile grocery business, after his father (Daniel Duval) suffers a heart attack.

Naturally a stint in this beautiful rural region, making deliveries to the elderly yet resilient locals, makes the disillusioned Antoine re-assess his own directionless life.

Writer/director Eric Guirado lets events unfold at their own relaxed pace, and has a feel for simmering family resentments, while the wonderful Clotilde Hesme is effortlessly charming in the role of the free-spirited best friend.
