The Odd Life Of Timothy Green

2

A couple bury a box of wishes in the hopes of getting a child of their own

Wannabe parents The Greens (Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Garner) can’t conceive.

So they bury a box of notes describing their perfect child in the garden and one (presumably supernatural) thunderstorm later, 10-year-old Timothy (CJ Adams) emerges from the mud; complete with leafy shins and the power of, er, photosynthesis.

A bonkers premise, but it lacks conviction, the tone lurching between dreary and mawkish.

In a year of top child turns (Looper, Beasts Of The Southern Wild), Adams just isn’t likeable or charismatic enough to conceal the plot holes, while the reliable adult leads struggle to keep their characters from straying into sappy.

An outdated oddity.
