The Stuart Hall Project

4

Not to be confused with the other Stuart Hall

Very much not to be confused with the other Stuart Hall, this is a docu-portrait of one of Britain’s most influential left-wing intellectuals who, during the ’60s, pioneered the academic field of Cultural Studies.

Writer/director John Akomfrah assembles a fascinating visual tapestry of archive material, drawing on the Caribbean-born Hall’s own TV/radio broadcasts and family snaps.

Particularly enlightening is the sense of how historical events and movements have shaped Hall’s work on British society. Plus you get soundtrack selections from our subject’s favourite jazzman, Miles Davis.
