Another round of home-video horror

Slicker than the original without the sudden lurches in quality, this second shaky-cam horror anthology still has a standout sequence by which all the others must be judged.

After Adam Wingard’s familiar I-See-Dead-People riff and an (excellent) extended zom-cam gag from the Blair Witch team, Gareth The Raid Evans and Timo Tjahjanto’s Indonesia-set ‘Safe Haven’ blows the film apart. The story of a documentary team infiltrating a cult, it’s the most insane piece of exploitation cinema you’ll see all year.

Neither the flimsy wraparound, nor Jason Eisener’s noisy Signs-on-speed, can measure up. Then again, what could?

Just as overrated as the first, both are average movies, yes they entertain and can be mildly scary but nothing more.

I saw this for sale on DVD in HMV yesterday? Can that be right or did I dream it? Is it a new release pattern for horrors?
