Belgian director Fabrice Du Welz’s surreal, haunting follow-up to 2004’s Calvaire is, if anything, even more of an ordeal. Searching desperately for their missing son – lost in the 2004 tsunami – Jeanne (Emmanuelle Béart) and Paul (Rufus Sewell) are drawn into a world of cruel, feral children living deep in the jungle on the Thai-Burmese border.
A sense of dread weighs heavy throughout, reinforced by a score so intense that at times it verges on abusive. Yet this is also one of the most gorgeous-looking films in recent memory, with brave, unabashed performances.
Think Antichrist, but without the genital mutilation.

Reading the above review by Rosie Fletcher, I cannot believe we were watching the same film! How this film can be described as a 'horror' or 'thriller' is laughable..... actually most people in the theatre were reduced to laughter at the sheer predictablility and senselessness of this movie. I have not seen 'Calvaire' and am unlikely to do so after watching Vinyan.

This is one movie you will either love or hate. I thought Vinyan was very good and it's good to see total film giving this movie some love. Most reviews have been rather negative. I watch so many horror movies that none of them leave any lasting impression on me. This one though is a worthwhile experience.
