We Steal Secrets: The Story Of Wikileaks

4

A documentary on Julian Assange

Alex Gibney's study of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is long, but there’s a lot to cover – from Assange’s hacker roots, to the US government’s post-9/11 expansion in intelligence- gathering, to the wider narrative of the internet’s impact on government, society and the media.

Big themes, then, but the human stories outweigh them, particularly in the case of the key informant Bradley Manning.

The main problem is a sense of incompleteness; with the story still ongoing, it’s hard not to feel life didn’t quite conform to Gibney’s schedule.
