What's The Worst That Could Happen?

3

Cheeky thief Kevin Caffrey (Martin Lawrence) is a wise-crackin’ charmer with a talent for stealing hearts and robbing houses. But when he breaks into the pad of businessman Max Fairbanks (Danny DeVito), he’s caught and Fairbanks forces him to hand over his cherished ring, a present from his new girlfriend. Cue revenge antics...

Surprisingly, the most glaring problems in What’s The Worst That Could Happen? are the leads. Lawrence quickly becomes unbearable as he pushes his fast-crackin’ schtick beyond natural limits, and DeVito merely delivers his usual slimy-yet-naïve turn, but minus any sort of clever spin.

Thank goodness, then, that those lower down the cast list rescue both film and audience. Sidekick John Leguizamo shows how motormouthing should be done, but it’s William Fichtner, best remembered as the weird cop in Go, who makes the biggest dent. All gold shirts and good grooming, his foppish yet cunning detective Alex Tardio will have you begging for more.
