This cuddly romantic comedy from Gary Tadpole Winick plays like Big in a bra. The conceit doesn't bear much scrutiny (a 13-year-old girl in a woman's body? (Hmmm...), but it's carried off with grace and charisma by Jennifer Garner, whose beauty belies her gift for physical comedy. It all gets rather gooey come the conclusion, with a warm'n'fuzzy magazine makeover that inspires nausea instead of nostalgia. But you'll be too busy grinning to care.
DVD Extras:
The commentaries from Winick and the movie's producers are affable without being very interesting. But the Making Of doc is a cut above the norm, while I Was A Teenage Geek has amusing teen snapshots of Garner and Mark Ruffalo ("I was absolutely pummelled"). The stacks of deleted scenes are most notable for an alternate dress-up montage featuring Garner in even skimpier clothes than she wears in the film. That sound you hear is our Sub Editor running to the shops...
