Staple '50 sci-fi putting Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion animation to full effect, as a rocket ship from Venus crash-lands and a gelatinous mass turns into a beastie that doubles in size every 24 hours. Yikes. The film doesn't compare with Jason And The Argonauts - Harryhausen was better with prehistoric than futuristic, but Harry's fans will love it.
DVD Extras:
The cheesy '50s trailer, plus a This Is Dynamation featurette. The highlight is The Harryhausen Chronicles, a fascinating retrospective on the maestro of mini-models. The man is ridiculously modest but today's wizards (including George Lucas) ensure he gets his dues.
