A clichéd, meringue-light confection, 27 Dresses is the movie equivalent of the beach-friendly chick-lit free with women’s mags. Exploiting supposed feminine obsessions with matters matrimonial, this ‘always the bridesmaid…’ yarn sidles wearyingly up the aisle of inevitability. Katherine Heigl lacks Knocked Up spunk as the maid whose wardrobe bulges with novelty frocks, while journo love interest James Marsden persists like herpes. Much more fun is the extra on an annual New Jersey discount dress-scrum: corset carnage!
