After the Gen-X Lord Of The Flies muddle that was The Beach, Danny Boyle reteams with author Alex Garland for this digital video nasty - set in the near future, where a 'rage' virus has decimated mankind. A downmarket Dawn Of The Dead/Day Of The Triffids hybrid, sure, but it's crudely effective nonetheless.

DVD Extras:

Strong in principle but sluggish in reality. A Jacknife Lee music video offers a hyperspeed edit of the film (shame about the `song'), while the deleted scenes reveal uncertainty over the ending (no surprise there - though the alternative is interesting).Pure Rage is a polished but uninvolving Making Of, offering plenty of interviews with science boffs who explain why a real-life pandemic is pretty much inevitable (cheers for that). Set next to all the talking heads, the movie clips look like excerpts from a public-education film, and the cast and crew back this up when yakking about the pic's serious subtext: "It's a warning as well as entertainment," says Boyle. No, it's a zombie film. Thankfully his enthusiastic commentary, recorded with the sombre Garland, has plenty of zest to balance the pretension.
