Given how few Abel Ferrara films reach our shores now, perhaps this eco-apocalypse melodrama should be greeted with enthusiasm.
But there’s something dreary about Ferrara’s first filmic return to New York in more than a decade, as two lovers – Dafoe’s actor and Shanyn Leigh’s artist – await the apocalypse in a loft apartment.
Sex, Skype and a craving for illicit substances dominate, with Ferrara’s indulgent canvas capturing only briefly the emotions such an event might induce.
