Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler reprise their Wedding Singer chemistry in a mostly charming rom-com.
Veterinarian Henry (an extra-puppyish Sandler) abandons his Lothario ways when he meets bubbly art teacher Lucy (Barrymore) - but her car-accident-induced short-term memory loss means he must win her love anew each day. So far, so sweet, the Groundhog Day-ish concept being fleshed out by a strong cast - including The Lord Of The Rings' Sean Astin as Lucy's goofy, musclebound brother.
There are occasional flies in the date-flick ointment, especially the flashes of gross-out humour which wander out of some teen-flick party to clumsily gatecrash the rather sweet proceedings. Still, ignore the projectile-vomiting walrus and you're left with an affectionate, grown-up, family-friendly romance.
DVD Extras:
A bumper crop: mildly amusing blooper reel, an advert for Sandler's new album, five deleted scenes with optional commentary, a guide to Hawaiian patois courtesy of hilarious Keanu-esque surfer dudes, a droll-if-overlong Comedy Central featurette starring cast member Rob Schneider and a 20-minute Making Of that points to Barrymore's hand in the film's likeable nature. Phew. And that's before you get to director Peter Segal and Barrymore's chatty, detailed commentary covering everything from icebergs to termites...
