More of a damp squib than a disco inferno, this account of New York's notorious Studio 54 club was heavily cut by distributor Buena Vista. What's left is the lacklustre tale of Ryan Phillippe's pretty boy Shane, who lands a job at the hottest club in town when he's spotted by owner Steve Rubell (Mike Myers). Good times, however, are on their way out the door. Phillippe's abs are more impressive than his acting, but Myers' cracking performance suggests he should do serious more often.
DVD Extras:
None.Offering not one whiff of a deleted scene, let alone a director's cut, a golden opportunity has been wasted here to show us what 54 was supposed to look like. The music sounds great, but for a livelier look at '70s hedonism check out Boogie Nights or The Last Days Of Disco.
