Rag dolls are pursued across a post-apocalyptic landscape by mechanical arachnids in a downbeat ’toon from Shane Acker that feels like a toyshop’s nightmare.
A top voice cast (Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, John C Reilly) give life to the critters, while their devastated universe is beautifully rendered.
Story-wise, 9 is repetitive and overwrought – side effects, we suspect, of giving an 11-minute short (included here) a 75-minute makeover.
