A Walk With Love And Death

3

John Huston’s output was nothing if not uneven and this is often written off as one of his failures. True, the acting inexperience of its lead pair of lovers is exposed. Eighteen-year-old Anjelica Huston, pushed into the role by dad, looks awkward, while Assaf Dayan, son of Israeli general Moshe Dayan, is little better. But the backdrop of war-ravaged 14th-century France is evoked in all its cruelty and the battles feel brutal and messy: no colourful Hollywood chivalry here.
