“Never work with children, animals or Irish rock stars!” rasps Bono as he preps a cameo in Julie Taymor’s Beatles musical. Sadly, his ego, revealed in the generous behind-the-scenes materials, is the most authentic feature of this bloated indulgence from the Titus director. Taymor strives to weave Lennon and McCartney’s back-catalogue of hits into a romance between Jim Sturgess’ Scouse docker and Evan Rachel Wood’s teen radical. Happiness might be a warm gun, but it definitely isn’t Eddie Izzard camping it up as a psychedelic Mr Kite.
