Stuck in the "Never mind the story, look at the scenery!!!" school of cinema, Billy Bob Thornton's second directorial outing is derailed by haphazard editing and colourless leads. Dull-as-dishwater Texan cowboy Matt Damon heads for '40s Mexico to work, but finds trouble when he falls for Penélope Cruz.
DVD Extras:
Trailer, filmographies.Thornton's first cut was a bum-numbing 3 1/2 hours, but the studio hacked the running time right down, making entire subplots flash past in an instant. The DVD would have been an ideal place to show what was missing. A shamefully wasted opportunity.
