Cameron Crowe's largely autobiographical tale of a 15-year-old journalist on tour with a '70s rock band is a love letter to a musical era as well as a coming-of-age comedy. The performances are terrific, the music scenes sound and look authentic and, as you'd expect from the writer of Jerry Maguire, the script sparkles.
DVD Extras:
Making Of featurette, music video, filmographies, trailer, Cameron Crowe's original articles for Rolling Stone. The Making Of featurette is longer and much more revealing than most, but the best touch is the inclusion of Crowe's '70s interviews with Led Zeppelin and co, as each also comes with a retrospective note from the director. However, the absence of a director's commentary is annoying. This is a movie that's positively dripping in personal history and rock anecdotes - a commentary would've turned the film/disc package up to 11.
