Bagging eight Oscars (including Best Picture, Actor, Director and Adapted Screenplay), Milos Forman's opulent drama is sheer quality. Wilful, foul-mouthed but brilliant prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce) is secretly undermined, ruined and - perhaps - eventually murdered by rival composer Antonio Salieri (F Murray Abraham).
DVD Extras:
Notes, filmographies, theatrical trailer, music-only track showcasing Sir Neville Marriner's scoring of Mozart and Salieri's music. Most of the basic background info is here, even if some of it could go into more depth. The music-only track is an odd extra, though: wouldn't anyone who's interested prefer to buy the soundtrack CD rather than watch the entire film with the dialogue turned off? Especially since, irritatingly, they're going to have to turn this disc over halfway through? You'd think so...
