Michael Apted’s biopic of slavery abolitionist William Wilberforce should be a stirring tale of one man’s crusade. Sadly it’s stuffy, riddled with heritage clichés and short on genuine passion. Ioan Gruffudd is watchable, though, whether on his soapbox in the Commons or warbling the hymn of the title.
