On a long, hot summer night in 1962, a group of Californian teens cruise around Sunset Strip to the sound of rock 'n' roll classics and contemplate their futures. This hugely influential docu-drama launched the careers of director George Lucas and its cast (Richard Dreyfuss, Harrison Ford and Ron Howard) and made nostalgia a marketable commodity.
DVD Extras:
78-minute Making of doc, weblink, trailer, production notes, cast and film-maker's bios. Given its cult status, it's surprising it took so long for American Graffiti to be given the full restoration treatment. Unfortunately, the lengthy Making Of is merely talking heads and brief film snippets with no behind-the-scenes footage or pre-production material. But the interviews with Lucas and cast at least convey the pain, pleasures and practicalities of guerrilla film-making during the '70s.
