Compared to the first two movies, the third American Pie is a somewhat tame affair, more concerned with dopey hero Jim's impending nuptials than the usual cocktail of smut, nudity and bodily fluids. Die-hard fans will be happier with this "unrated" version: it restores excised footage from Jim's bachelor party and there's also more of Stifler (Seann William Scott) eating dogshit and shagging Granny.
Having lost a few regulars (Mena Suvari, Chris Klein and Tara Reid), the focus is now on the humiliating mishaps of Jason Biggs' Jim (being caught in flagrante with his future in-laws' dogs, showering the cake with pubic shavings) and the foul-mouthed ravings of Stifler. The latter gets the film's funniest scene - a gay bar dance-off - but his elevation has a price: returning cast members Thomas Ian Nicholas and Eddie Kaye Thomas are sidelined, and Alyson Hannigan, wasted as Biggs' intended, is virtually obliterated.
Thankfully, though, comedy god Eugene Levy is on hand as Jim's kindly dad, while January Jones makes a fetching new addition as Michelle's impossibly cute sister.
