Defence attorney Arthur Kirkland (Al Pacino) has his cynicism of the US legal system reinforced when a corrupt judge (John Forsythe of Dynasty fame) is charged with rape and Kirkland is blackmailed into representing him. Along the way, Jack Warden has great fun as an eccentric and suicidal judge who reckons Kirkland should just stop worrying because, what the hell, life sucks.

Director's commentary, theatrical trailer, filmographies.Despite some illustrious names on the credits - Norman Jewison directed, Barry Levinson co-wrote the script and even Lee Strasberg turns up as Kirkland's grandfather - this can't quite make up its mind if it's supposed to be a comedy or a drama. Still, the transfer is clean and crisp, Jewison's commentary is intriguing and Pacino, who picked up an Oscar nomination, is as electrifying as ever.
