Angel Heart

4

Hired by mysterious businessman Louis Cyphre (Robert De Niro) to find a missing singer, seedy private eye Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) heads from 1955 New York deep into New Orleans. The plot may be murky, but Alan Parker's grimy noir horror makes up for it with spine-twisting atmosphere, oodles of sly wit and a nightmare-birthing ending.

DVD Extras:

Director's commentary, trailer, cast and crew notes, three mini-documentaries, interview with Parker, stills gallery, behind-the-scenes footage.Parker's commentary is great - his rambling Cockernee tones and stories of the leads trying to out-improv each other are the ideal counterpoint to the bleached visuals. It's just a shame the rest of the disc, which begins Momentum's "Director's Chair" series, doesn't hit the same high. The mini docs are made for American TV pap about voodoo and the behind-the-scenes footage is frankly laughable.
