Annie Hall

5

A typically Woody Allen love story, filled with the usual wry asides about life in general and Allen's in particular. Nonetheless, Annie Hall proves that, when he's at his best, there's really no one to match him. Thankfully, everyone else in the cast is just as good, with Diane Keaton as the standout, giving Annie a ditzy yet vulnerable quality.

DVD Extras:

Theatrical trailer. Allen's speciality (crackling dialogue) means that Annie Hall isn't the best disc to buy if you want to give the sound system a workout (especially as it ain't even in stereo). And those who love extras will bemoan the fact that there's not even a documentary. But who cares about that when you've got one of the smartest comedies ever made? With Woody on top form and the entire cast giving their best, this is one to own regardless. No extras? Try wit, intelligence and quality laughs.
