Troubled US marine Willard (Martin Sheen) sails into the territory of renegade Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando), to "terminate him with extreme prejudice". Coppola drove himself to the brink of suicide forging his equally cursed/celebrated 'Nam epic, but the pretentiousness is always soothed by Vittorio Storaro's glorious cinematography.
DVD Extras:
Trailer, director's audio commentary on The Destruction Of The Kurtz Compound documentary. A film with such a turbulent history should come with the mandatory galaxy of goodies, but Mr Coppola could only be arsed to mumble a bored narration over some pretty footage of one of the sets being destroyed. We can only await the ideal Apocalypse Now package: a double-pack of the film and Eleanor Coppola's superb making-of documentary Hearts Of Darkness. Vote with your wallet.
