Arahan

3

For a super dose of martial-arts action, look no further than Arahan, a lightning-paced Korean kung fu comedy. A vibrant, if ramshackle, cross between The Matrix and Kung FuHustle (and made earlier than the latter), it follows a hapless and ineffectual traffic cop (Ryu Seung-Bum) as he stumbles across a group of Tai Chi elders who believe he could be the "Arahan" Master they've been searching for. After initial reluctance, he taps into his `chi' and spin-kicks, leaps and palm blasts (!) towards a final showdown with the inventively named "Supreme Master of Absolute Evil". Inspired by a comic book and brimming with mythical action and likeable characters, set against the urban sprawl of Seoul, the rather lightweight Arahan doesn't purport to change the world but is pretty irresistible entertainment. Stephen Chow fans, apply within.
