It’s Gremlins with hoodies! It’s Kidulthood with glow-in-the-dark space monkeys! It’s the new Shaun Of The Dead!
Unfortunately, Joe Cornish’s alien-invasion urban thrilla never quite lives up to its promise, but it does inject a welcome dose of street-smart originality into a tired genre.
Neither as funny, clever or suspenseful as it should have been, it’s saved by a fresh young cast (John Boyega stands out as teen-gang main man Moses) and a handful of terrific monster moments.
FX featurettes, a lengthy documentary and three insightful commentaries ought to help it towards the cult status it was always destined for beyond the big screen. Safe, bruv.
