You must know the story: Enchanted castle. Spellbound Beast. The life-giving Belle. Disney's classic retelling boasts superb songs, a witty script and unforgettable characters.
DVD Extras:
When it comes to reissuing old classics, nobody does it better than Disney. This two-disc package has the usual gee-shucks veneer, but get past the gloss and there's some illuminating content. The Animated Magic video snippets ably explain the intricacies of animation and The Story Behind The Story examines the origins of various classic 'toons. Ignore the Making Of unless you're a big Celine Dion fan (she fronts it) and opt instead for the Cogworth And Lumiere section, which includes the same material but is a welcome 20 minutes longer. The four-person commentary (producer, directors, composer) is short on tech banter, long on fond anecdotage, while the original theatrical cut is included alongside the superior Special Edition. Of the games, Mrs Potts' Personality Profile is best, discerning who in the movie you most resemble. Total Film was amorous candlestick Lumiere. Zut alors!
