With Home Counties accent firmly in place, Anne Hathaway makes a feisty Jane Austen, finding inspiration for novels as she fights off, then falls for, James McAvoy’s charmingly immoral suitor. Meanwhile, the usual period-drama suspects ( Julie Walters, Maggie Smith, et al) look on... Yep, it’s basically Shakespeare In Love II: Austen Translation, but you’d need a heart of rock (or an English Lit PhD) not to enjoy this tear duct-troubling romdram. Solid extras includes a chat-track, deleted bits and a look at the lensing of the stand-out cricket scene.
