Freaky music vid director Spike Jonze made the transition from promo to big screen with this brain-screwing tale of puppetry, mind-control and bisexual love triangles - and deservedly nabbed himself an Oscar nom in the process. Both John Cusack and Cameron Diaz undergo deeply unflattering transformations for their characters, while Malkovich serves up one of the most delicious self-parodies you'll see for years.
DVD Extras:
Trailer, filmographies, American Arts And Culture Presents: John Horatio Malkovich, Dance Of Despair And Disillusionment, 71/2 Floor Orientation, Spike's Photo Album, TV spots, Spike Jonze interview. On this side of the Pond, Jonze's weirdo comedy hasn't really received the DVD treatment it deserves, retaining the least interesting elements of its Region One counter-part (the American Arts And Culture and 71/2 Floor Orientation sketches are a bit pointless when you've got scene selection) and dropping the better extras (whither the revealing doc on the movie's real-life puppeteer?). Still, at least they kept Jonze's on-set snaps, and his amusingly vommy interview...
