Bernie

Jack Black plays an unlikely murderer in Richard Linklater's comedy

While Dexter and Hannibal rule the small screen, the loveable murderer is somewhat underrepresented on the big.

Enter Richard Linklater’s black comedy and Jack Black as Bernie, the unlikely anti-hero of a true crime story.

A sweet preacher-cum-funeral director, Bernie is a character drawn with the kind of nuance that’s often lacking in Black’s comedic work.

Your enjoyment level will depend on how willing you are to go along with Linklater as he revels in small-town grotesquery, but it’s balanced out by his straight-faced approach to the facts.
