Tom Hanks was rapidly approaching A-list status by the time he took the lead in 1988's Big, and Penny Marshall's now classic, bittersweet comedy certainly helped catapult him in the right direction. A modern fairytale through and through, it sees Hanks as a young lad who wishes himself into the body of a grown-up with the help of an eerie fairground wish-making machine. He then bags a cool job at a toy company, rents a flat and - almost - gets the girl (Elizabeth Perkins). Joyously entertaining, escapist stuff.

DVD Extras:

Trailer. A clear picture, crisp sound and the film's infinite rewatchability can't hide the fact that there're bugger all extra's on offer. A commentary from Hanks in particular would have offered a decent insight into his performance but hey, its not there, so deal with it. A class film then, but this disc is a real wasted opportunity.
