Big Trouble In Little China

2

Not nearly as funny  or as good - as you probably remember it, John Carpenter's admittedly tongue-in-cheek Big Trouble In Little China can now be seen as the beginning of his perplexing demise. Set under the streets of San Francisco's Chinatown, it stars Kurt Russell (who else?) as a reluctant hero who finds himself fighting a 2,000-year-old wizard and various shoddy beasties.

DVD Extras:

Featurette, deleted scenes, extended ending, music video, trailers. The Making Of is a waste of space but the deleted scenes (all with a text intro) are sometimes fascinating - unlike the extended ending, which does little but stretch the running time. The music vid is the big selling point. A horrid relic of the '80s, replete with long-haired, shades-wearing men who waggle their heads like drunken cocker spaniels, it features the delight of Carpenter himself strumming an electric guitar and crooning: "Biiiiiiig Trouble... in LITTLE CHINA!"

Flawed but extremely fun popcorn film. Also manages to make Kurt Russell endlessly cool, despite being a buffoon.
