Black Hawk Down

4

Leaving aside the film's dubious politics and jingoism (and doesn't Ridley Scott wish that everyone would), there's no disputing Black Hawk Down's status as one of the most thrilling - yet brutal - war films of modern times. Thrusting us into the midst of the action, the movie burns celluloid at the speed of an M16 locked on full-auto.

DVD Extras:

Spread across two discs, this lavish release offers audio commentaries from Ridley Scott, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, author Mark Bowden, screenwriter Ken Nolan and veterans from the conflict. The second disc has six excellent behind the scenes featurettes, deleted and alternate scenes, an extensive look at the design stages and, best of all, some of Scott's trademark storyboard sketches. These mini-masterpieces are proof of just how visually talented the British helmer really is. Never one to be upstaged, Bruckheimer contributes some on-set photographs to complete this stunning package. In the words of the Rangers: "Hoo-Ha!"
