Black Pond

3

A British family and their Japanese friend are accused of murder when a stranger dies at the dinner table.

“I lost my job because of the publicity,” confesses actor Chris Langham in this Britcom.

No, he’s not talking about the time he was convicted for downloading child porn. It’s a reference to the fictional tabloid sensation at the heart of this offbeat story that involves a dead three-legged dog, a widower and two illegal burials.

Funny and surprisingly moving, this languidly surreal comedy cross-fertilises Mike Leigh and Chris Morris. It also rehabilitates the wonderfully lugubrious Langham’s career.

Disc includes co-directors Will Sharpe and Tom Kingsley’s enjoyable short Cockroach.
