Blood Diamond

Ed Zwick’s action flick with a conscience propels Leonardo DiCaprio’s merc into the heart of Sierra Leone’s 1999 civil war in a quest for the priceless rock of the title. Effective as a pulse-pounder, it fails to pay its backdrop enough respect to dispel the guilt of thrills from real-life bloodshed. Zwick’s commentary and docs redress the balance somewhat.
