Blue Velvet (18)

Master of all things weird David Lynch’s ’80s cult classic arrives on DVD in all its expletive-laden, ear-slicing, S&M porny glory. Dennis Hopper steals scenes as psycho Frank Booth, but Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, Dean Stockwell and Isabella Rossellini provide solid support in this semi-satirical exposé of the squalid underbelly of smalltown USA. The result is a sinister, super-twisted morality tale which seethes with menace, much like its leading man.

DVD Extras:

None whatsoever. Disappointment time again as another great movie is sorely let down on DVD by some bog-standard vision formatting and complete lack of any extra goodies. Despite that, there's no denying that it still looks and sounds infinitely better than its videocassette form so, if you've got the cash, the hardware and even a shred of good taste, it's certainly the best version you can own.
