Bottle Rocket

4

You're more likely to have heard of Bottle Rocket than seen it: never before available in the UK, Wes Anderson's comic debut finds the man who made Rushmore putting curious characters through their paces.

In this case, we're introduced to Anthony (Luke Wilson), recently released from a voluntary psychological hospital to hook back up with mate Dignan (brother Owen, bolting a jittery side onto his slacker style). He's soon embroiled in several heists - funniest being a bookshop robbery - and naturally the wheels come off...

The breezy plot often wafts in odd directions, while the helmer's typically unconventional music choices - The Proclaimers jostle against The Rolling Stones - act as gusts of fresh air.

This is Anderson still finding his feet, but the steps and swagger are confident.
