Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason

2

Renée Zellweger returns for a second helping of BJ action that's a shadow of its former self. As the singleton adapts to her poker-arsed boyfriend Mark Darcy (a poker-arsed Colin Firth), flirts with her ex (Hugh Grant) and gets banged up in Thailand, Beeban Kidron's tweequel falls way short of the wit and heart that made the original such a hit. Still, the slapstick makes for a fluffily enjoyable diversion.

DVD Extras:

Luckily the generous and full-on girlie extras compensate for the main feature's weaknesses. There's plenty of behind-the-scenes footage, insightful deleted scenes and more amusing bitching from Firth and Grant.Kidron's chat-track is more concerned with creative themes than insider goss, while the ideal man quiz is straight out of a women's mag. But a knight in shining armour comes in the form of a witty piss-take by Firth and Zellweger, the pair re-enacting the scene from the book where Bridget slobbers over... Colin Firth.
