John Woo's first major US movie, after a minor aberration with Jean- Claude Van Damme, sees Stealth bomber pilot John Travolta getting a bad dose of Saturday night fever and poncing a nuclear missile from his employers in a bid to (nervous tic!), hold (flamboyant gesture!), the world (wild stare!), to ransom. It's left to Christian Slater and a spectacularly bad Samantha Mathis to stop him. Which, of course, they do.
DVD Extras:
Original theatrical trailer. The film looks great and the disc is plushly presented, but Broken Arrow has neither the blockbusting appeal of Face/Off, nor the grace of The Killer. The trailer gets it just right: plenty of big explosions and one-liners with none of the flabby plot. It's almost a shame that the full flick had to be included on the disc. But then, that would be a rip-off, right? Right?
