"When did you first fall in love with hip-hop?" asks journalist Sydney (Sanaa Lathan) with annoying regularity in this all-black rom-com. But once we get past the slavish idolatry for the music - director and co-scripter Rick Famuyiwa determined to show the beauty behind the drive-by shootings and ostentatious bling - this emerges as a slick, pleasing blend of buppie romance and record-industry satire. Cool cast too, with special kudos for landing Taye Diggs and Queen Latifah.
