Camp Victory, Afghanistan

The other side of nation-building in Afghanistan...

Camp Victory review

“Our version of democracy will never be theirs,” is one US commander’s verdict on nation-building in a country rife with tribalism and corruption.

Filleted from 300 hours of footage, Carol Dysinger’s doc offers captivating but grim insight into US efforts to build an army out of young Afghans who don’t actually care. Literacy lessons are avoided, while training drills inspire boredom.

With some of the grunts flogging intel to the Taliban, rare flashes of optimism are smothered by an overwhelming sense of hopelessness.
