Carlito's Way

4

Brian De Palma's last great movie sees Al Pacino bringing the pain as Carlito Brigante, an ex-hood turned good whose shot at redemption is knocked off target by his unstable, coke-hoovering lawyer buddy (Sean Penn). Pacino is the sexiest he's ever been as the Puerto Rican crook, but it's Penn who really steals the show.

DVD Extras:

Theatrical trailer, production notes, cast and film-maker's notes.Anyone who's been waiting to upgrade their dusty ol' VHS of De Palma's overlooked-on-release crime flick will be sorely disappointed with this clumsy, slapdash effort. The menus are ugly and clunky, the production notes are insultingly fluffy and the trailer's typically pointless. Worst of all, the absence of anamorphic widescreen means that anyone with a widescreen TV will have to punch that zoom button if they want the picture to come anywhere near close to filling their screen.
