Clues: an innocent pursued by murderers; a suave seducer who can’t be trusted; a haul of missing money providing the excuse for suspense and romantic repartee. Name the director... You’d be forgiven for answering Hitchcock, because Charade is that rarest of film forgeries: a comedy thriller that pulls off the Master’s signature. The credit goes to Stanley Donen, who nails it courtesy of Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, ’60s stylings and a narrative with more twists than Shyamalan’s career.
